MEET HEIDI
A life with plenty of plot twists.

I’m Heidi Gariti—a wife, mom, and self-made advocate, baptized by fire.
I didn’t set out to learn the ins and outs of foster care, adoption, education, healthcare, and disability services, but apparently that is my purpose! When my children needed someone to speak up, I learned to ask questions, keep digging, and find my voice. Well, finding my voice was never the problem. I’m learning to use it—let’s say—in a softer tone and more effectively. But honestly, sometimes the softer tone has to go out the window.
After having three biological children, we fostered and adopted two more, including a teen and a child with complex medical needs. Yes, we know some people think we’re crazy. If you’re still undecided, consider this your official confirmation. There has been a lot of joy, heartbreak, tears, laughter, and figuring things out as we go. I still haven’t figured out how to get everyone to the table when dinner is ready. Let’s just say my expertise has limits.
Parenting has given me experience with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, complex medical needs, and significant mental health challenges—and the schools, therapies, healthcare, and support systems that come with them. Growing up with Type 1 diabetes gave me an early introduction to a not-so-typical childhood. It’s quite the résumé, though I don’t remember applying for most—well, any—of these positions.
Faith runs through my story. My own plans were smaller than the life that unfolded, and I’m still learning about trust, obedience, and letting go. I would prefer God send the occasional detailed itinerary, but so far, we’re doing this one bombshell at a time.
I share personal experiences, practical lessons, and stories that make people laugh, feel connected, and see things differently. Somebody ought to benefit from all this.
